A very stubborn Char Siew Pau uncle

Ya know? I've never truly appreciated the art of the Char Siew Pau uncle downstairs at Blk 1 until today.

Before the visit to the Bird Park, Hubby and I went to Blk 1 to buy our usual Char Siew Pau fixes... to our surprise, there were none! The steamer was completely empty! Devoid of the usual plump, white paus filled with delicious, succulent, red marinated meat known as Char Siew.

The lady in front of me was carrying a kid, an adorable little boy who seemed t have as big a fixation of the uncle's char siew paus as I. When his mom ordered one and the uncle's reply was "today , don't have..." you should have seen the crestfallen look on his face.

He was brave, that boy, I give it to him. He didn't cry, he didn't make a scene nor throw a tantrum, he just looked really really sad and disappointed.

I guess the uncle gave in, because the uncle kept repeating, "today's paus turned out very bad. they've all got holes in them, too ugly.. cannot sell..." and gave the little boy one for free. I told the uncle I also wanted one, but uncle said, "sorry no more. dunno what's wrong with his paus today but they all turned out terrible, so no char siew paus... that was the last one."

Dunno real or fake, but the uncle.. i have to hand it to him.. he's very stubborn and strict on his QC.. I guess that's why his paus are always perfefct.. plump, moist, white, soft, deliciously stuffed with savory char siew in char siew sauce... hmmmmm!!!
