Lunch - Sushi Mitsuya

On a whim, I decided to check out Sushi Mitsuya at 60 Tras street today.  I've heard about it and many of my facebook friends seem to have given it a try and rated the place a good thumbs up, so here I am!

A quick walk away from Tanjong pagar Mrt via Exit a, I found myself quickly at the doorstep of Sushi Mitsuya.

The entrance is very subtle and you could have easily missed the place if you didn't know what you were looking out for.

Once inside,  I was warmly greeted by the waitress but the warmest greeting was reserved for the regular who was right behind me.

I was of course carrying my 2 month old baby in a sling and somehow I got the impression that babies were not particularly welcome.  They asked if I would like to move to a private room.  But if I did, how could I see the famous "dance" of the sushi knives? I politely refused.

In the main room, there were a total of 8 guests, me included. And everyone,  I mean, everyone ordered the Kasha Chef Special aka. OMAKASE, $180++ per pax.

The chef and sous chef did take the time to explain everything and where the seasonal ingredients came from. However I dunno if I am fussy but somehow the sashimi and sushi doesn't seem to hit the spot for me.

The fish although fresh did not have enough bite/crunch.  Same with the sashimi.

Of all the items, I think I only truly enjoyed the Otoro and the Scallop with yuzu peel.

Overall I think I would rate this place as OK but not great. Probably 3.5/5.

Would I come back? Probably.
Would I highly recommend this? Not really.

Final verdict? OK, not great.
